We wanted to explore a different kind of narrative and I thought a story of a bank robbery would fit the tensions layered musically throughout the song. We didn’t want to do a beginning, middle, and end storyline. Rather, we wanted to drop the listener in medias res without any context and let them fit the pieces of the narrative together for themselves. We thought an abrupt opening of an intense dialogue between characters was a strong kickstart for the song. The lyrics compel a level of intentional listening while still being open-ended in their meaning in hopes that listeners draw their own conclusions as to the message of the song beyond the plot line of the robbery.
